Professional Development
The Educational Policy Institute conducts conferences and workshops and writes books, articles, and guidebooks for the development of educational professionals. This work emanates from EPI's mission to move research to practice.
Conferences. EPI conducts the annual International Student Retention Conference. The next conference, Retention 2007, is scheduled for May 22-24, 2007 in San Antonio, Texas. The annual conference attracts hundreds of educational professionals, researchers, and policymakers from North America and beyond to discuss issues of student success at the K-12 and postsecondary levels. Workshops. EPI is building from its research platform on issues related to educational opportunity and success with a number of workshops aimed at providing educational practitioners with hands-on strategies that can improve practice. Currently, the workshops focus on postsecondary enrollment and student retention. EPI conducts the Retention 101 workshops each spring and fall in the United States and one spring event in Canada. Retention 101 provides individuals and institutional teams an opportunity to immerse themselves in the issue of student success for 2.5 days in a retreat atmosphere.
Webinars. In 2007, EPI began conducting web-based seminars, or webinars, on the issues of strategic enrollment management and student retention. These 1.5 hour events provide information for professionals to enhance institutional practice.
Strategic Planning. EPI also assists educational institutions with strategic planning exercises to increase student success. This work is supported by EPI's research, including the development of the Institutional Student Retention Assessment (ISRA), designed to provide an internal analysis of institutional practices and priorities.
