COLLEGE ACCESS AND AFFORDABILITY TOPS AGENDA FOR HIGHER EDUCATION CONFERENCE IN RICHMOND

Washington, DC, January 3, 2008—Higher education experts, students and parents will converge on Tuesday, January 22, 2008, for “The Real Story about Going to College,” a critically important forum at Richmond’s Jefferson Hotel about the tools available to Virginia families to help them overcome the academic, informational and financial barriers to attending college.

Sponsored by America’s Student Loan Providers, College Parents of America, ECMC Foundation, and the Educational Policy Institute, various participants will present and discuss the truths about going to college, including preparing academically for college, selecting one and paying for it.

The half-day conference is free and open to the public, media and higher education community and is scheduled to begin at 9:30 AM.

Opening the conference with an overview of higher education in Virginia will be Dr. David W. Breneman, professor and former dean of the Curry School of Education, University of Virginia.  Other speakers will address the truths about cost and college and preparing for, finding and paying for college.  Confirmed speakers to date include the following:
