Gearing Up For San Antonio
May 18, 2007
Dr. Watson Scott Swail,
President, Educational Policy Institute
We’re all kind of psyched here at EPI
this week. Next week we’ll all be in San
Antonio for our big Retention 2007 International
Conference. We’re psyched because this
year’s event is over twice the size of
our Las Vegas conference last year, and
our list of speakers and presenters is
impressive: Representative Chaka Fattah,
John Gardner, Diana Natalicio, Cliff Adelman,
Raymund Paredes, Roseann Runte, Cha Guzman,
Sarita Brown, John Brooks Slaughter, and
many more. This stated, we’ve been kind
of busy with final arrangements, thus
I’m keeping my commentary very brief and
directed.
As of today, we’re still getting registrations
for Retention 2007, and registration will
be open until Tuesday. I invite our readers
to visit the website and consider participating.
We’ll be in San Diego next May 28-30,
2008.
I would like to thank our sponsors: the
National Student Clearinghouse, Lumina
Foundation for Education, TG, and NACME
for their support of this initiative.
I’ll be back to you next week with a
discussion of what happened in San Antonio.
Until then, have a great weekend.
Dr. Watson Scott Swail
Ps. Just a note that we have postponed
our National Capitol Summit on Latino
Students and Educational Opportunity due
to spacing issues on Capitol Hill. We
will be hosting the event this September/October
and will advise as soon as we sign the
necessary contracts.
